Intuition has a way of calling for our attention. Sometimes it's a quiet feeling we struggle to explain. Other times, it keeps returning until we're ready to listen.
While living in Panama, I became fascinated by the persistent sound of roosters, which I could hear crowing even from thirteen floors up. Their calls became a reminder of how intuition can continue to reach us, even when we try to ignore it. As I've grown older, I've learned to trust that inner knowing more and to take action when something tells me it's time for a change.
This painting reflects on the beauty of carrying those histories and differences with us rather than trying to blend them away. The toucan, with its brilliantly colored bill, connects her to the natural world and to ancient Panamanian symbolism, where the bird may have held cosmological significance.
Perhaps the things that make us different are not what separate us, but what make the whole more beautiful. We each carry our own stories, and together they create something far richer than any single story could hold.
