There is something about wanting something that asks us to move toward it. We search, we hope, and we make the effort to find what we desire. But there is also a freedom in learning to seek without becoming attached to the outcome.

I thought about this while whale watching in Panama. I went out hoping to see whales, spending hours looking toward the horizon, but never saw one. Still, the experience stayed with me.

This painting reflects on that space between desire and surrender. The woman carries the energy of seeking while remaining open to whatever unfolds. The whale appears within her, while water flows through her, suggesting a willingness to stay in the flow of life even when we don't know what will come.

Maybe we can want something deeply while still remaining open to discovering something we never knew we needed.
