Created as the final painting of this residency, this piece reflects the warmth, openness, and sense of human connection I experienced throughout my time in Mérida.

The work was inspired by moments of recognition between people. Conversations unfolding easily between strangers. The feeling of being welcomed into spaces with generosity rather than guardedness. Again and again, I encountered an atmosphere here that felt deeply inclusive and alive.

The vividness within the piece became a way of expressing that feeling emotionally rather than literally. A sense of life becoming more expansive when people are met with openness, curiosity, and mutual care.

At its core, the painting reflects the possibility of connection across difference, and the quiet ways kindness and acceptance can shape the emotional landscape of a place.
