Reckonings with Unconsciousness

Reckonings with Unconsciousness is an evolving watercolor series that explores humanity's relationship with ancestral knowledge, memory, and the natural world. Rather than illustrating a single place or culture, these paintings draw from encounters across landscapes, histories, and lived experiences to ask what has been forgotten and what still lives beneath the surface of consciousness.

Created through travel, observation, and reflection, the series considers how disconnection from the living world shapes our understanding of ourselves and one another. Figures, animals, and landscapes merge into symbolic narratives that invite contemplation rather than certainty, revealing the invisible threads that continue to connect humanity with ancestral knowledge, the spiritual realm, and the natural world.

What began as a body of work during a six-month residency in Mérida, Yucatán, continues to grow as I travel through Central America. Each painting becomes another conversation in an unfolding inquiry that asks not only what we have lost, but what we may still remember.
